Corners — Minimalist Photography and Geometric Abstraction

A corner of a room that opens up, expands, recedes, then comes into view. A recess that creates new perspectives. This paradox lies at the heart of Alexandre Morelli’s photographs. Yet everything remains firmly rooted in reality: these images depict the corner of a living room, an office, a museum corridor… and still, rather than being confined by these architectural angles, the viewer’s eye is led beyond them.

There is a strong sense of mystery in these images, which draw us into a universe far broader than the space being photographed. Are we in a two-dimensional or a three-dimensional world? Are we looking at painting or photography? At times, a single clue disrupts the illusion: the edge of a poster, a strip of flaking baseboard paint… small details that bring us back to reality — to the wall, to the room, to the photograph. This constant back-and-forth between geometric abstraction and concrete space both delights and unsettles the viewer.

With Corners, Alexandre Morelli explores perception itself, demonstrating that it is the act of looking that becomes the true subject.
