Balneotherapy – Photographic series

Balneotherapy is a photographic series by Alexandre Morelli that explores color, Mediterranean light, and seaside rituals through a contemporary aesthetic.

Through its choice of subject and the technique employed, these images recall the colorful worlds of Martin Parr and Nikita Teryoshin, while asserting a visual language that presents seaside resorts through tight, close-framed compositions.

Shot largely with a small, discreet camera (a Ricoh GR3x) paired with a powerful flash, the series embraces a direct, mobile, and spontaneous approach, capturing everyday scenes bathed in sunlight.

With Balneotherapy, he presents a series of images that questions our relationship with seaside resorts. How can these tourist destinations—filled with visitors over weekends, summers, and holidays—be photographed? How can we show the way we spend our time when we head to the water’s edge to soak up the sun?
